In this introductory course, we will explore the complex topic of portrait drawing and break it down into manageable concepts. Students will be introduced to 3 different views, front, side and 3/4.  With easy-to-follow exercises, we’ll examine the face in sections and focus on understanding how to get more accurate proportions, how to draw eyes, noses and mouths and how to put it all together in a well-proportioned drawing. We’ll take our work from simple line drawing to well proportioned forms working with shadows, and the plains of the face. A supply list will be attached to your receipt/see supply list below.

Good quality pencils (Faber Castell, Staedtler Lumograph, Derwent, Caran D'Ache),  HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B and 9XXB (General Pencils-Kimberly Graphite Extra Extra Soft Drawing Pencil, 9XXB), kneaded eraser, pencil sharpener with two-hole sizes, 1 white rubber eraser, 1 pad of paper or sketchbook (EX:  Strathmore Mixed Media, Stonehenge drawing,Fabriano Aritistico Hotpress Watercolor Paper, Arches Watercolor hotpress) approximately 9” x 11” (could be larger), blending stump
