Undesirable

Undesirable extends the inquiry of At the Table into moving image. The work examines the legal, bureaucratic, medical, and religious systems that historically classified, regulated, and sought to remove queer and trans people from Canada historically to present day. Through the language of files, stamps, forms, dates and institutional procedure, the film traces the architecture of control and the systems of legibility imposed upon queer lives.

Drawing on archival terminology and administrative language, including historically derogatory terms, the work presents these materials as evidence of these systems rather than affirmations of them, while also attending to the persistence of those who were never fully erased.

A three-channel moving image installation in progress.
